The Associated Press reports that MU football coach Gary Pinkel cemented a new contract Monday. ESPN reported late last week that Pinkel’s deal included an annual salary of $2.5 million.
No official details of the offer have been released by MU. The contract awaits approval by the UM Board of Curators, who meet Tuesday.

News of Pinkel’s annual millions comes a week after UM System President Gary Forsee announced a systemwide hiring freeze — a move that an MU spokeswoman deemed “prudent” considering the current economic conditions.
Over the weekend, Missourian sports writer Andrew Astleford (formerly of The Washington Post) reported on Mizzou Tiger parents’ reactions to Pinkel’s new contract.
